Filson began in Seattle in 1897, equipping people headed toward the Alaska Gold Rush. Clothing and gear had to answer to weather, terrain, and the hard work of getting somewhere.

That beginning still explains the brand’s emphasis on utility and long service. The adventure may now be a weekend away or an ordinary commute, but there is something reassuring about a maker that starts with the question of what will hold up.

Millstream Home

The past has
a place at home.

Jake and Janelle founded Millstream Home with their Amish heritage in mind. They went looking along Lancaster County’s back roads for the craftspeople who could carry familiar ways of making into a new generation of homes.

Their work brings together weavers, broom makers, potters, and other artisans. Each object offers a small connection: to a family, to a place, and to a skill someone has chosen to keep practicing.

Nocs began with a pair of binoculars on a San Francisco porch, checking the surf. Soon they came along for camping trips, bird sightings, and backcountry days. The idea was simple: make a pair worth taking everywhere.

The team worked through more than twenty prototypes in the Outer Sunset, looking for a balance of compact size, capable optics, and a comfortable grip. The result invites a lasting habit: step outside, slow down, and notice something you would otherwise have walked past.
