Jake and Janelle grew up in families with Amish heritage—Jake in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Janelle as the youngest of eight. When they started their own family, they realized they had little from their childhood to pass down and began thinking about what makes something an heirloom. In early 2016 they founded Millstream Home, tracking down makers still using historic production methods and designing products local craftsmen could manufacture by hand—things meant to be used, passed down, and become heirlooms. This hamper comes from Amish basket weavers in Pennsylvania working with seagrass roping, wood, willow, and reed. Full-grain leather handles, solid brass hardware and nameplate. Stands upright for carrying and storage. Because it's handwoven, some variation is expected.

Set it in the corner and it looks like furniture with a purpose. Fill it with towels and within two days someone will have emptied it to build a fort, then refilled it with blocks, then declared it off-limits because important things live there now. Brass nameplate stays blank unless you engrave it, which means it could say anything or nothing and both feel equally correct.
