Spinning Top Plate | 25cm Maple

A 25cm maple plate made specifically for spinning tops to spin on — the plate itself does not spin. Klaus Mader started Mader Kreiselmanufaktur in 1991 after turning a single top as a gift for his wife Margit; what began as a one-off gesture turned into a workshop in Innsbruck producing roughly 150 variations of tops, yoyos, jump ropes, and these plates. Made in upper Austria from regional hardwoods. Mader describes them variously as a dance floor for the whole family, a stage for artists, or a paddock for would-be runaways — wooden surfaces meant to give tops a proper place to do their thing.

Flat circle of wood. No moving parts. A top spins on it until it doesn't. The manufacturer's copy assigns it three jobs simultaneously without ranking them, so you're holding infrastructure that's also a venue that's also an enclosure?
