Elena and Dmitriy—designer and woodworker, married couple—make toys that ditch plastic entirely, using beech wood finished with beeswax oil instead. The handle is smooth, the rings move freely and clack together when shaken. Their approach balances minimalist form with tactile craft, making things meant to be felt as much as seen. Shake it and the rings clack. Stop shaking and they stop clacking, demonstrating a work ethic based entirely on external motivation. Zero batteries means zero opportunity to blame a dead power source when it just sits there doing nothing, which is arguably the rattle's most honest state.
