Rafael Atijas designed it as part of his Master's thesis in 2010, then turned it into a company after a Kickstarter campaign proved that parents everywhere were tired of handing kids toys shaped like guitars instead of actual guitars. The body is solid basswood. The neck is maple. The fingerboard is rosewood. The strings are nylon, like classical guitar strings, so they're easier on small fingers. It's 22.2 inches long, weighs just under a pound, and comes with chord flashcards, picks, and a download code for the Loog Guitar app that walks kids through lessons without making it feel like homework. All the wood comes from responsibly managed forests, because Atijas decided early on that sustainable design mattered as much as the tuning.

Someone will carry it to the living room, sit down, and spend the next twenty minutes playing the same three chords over and over, each time a little cleaner, a little more confident, until suddenly it sounds like a song and they look up amazed that their own hands did that.
