Jake grew up Amish in Lancaster, Pennsylvania — one-room schoolhouse, horse and pony commute, working the barn on a large farm until he was sixteen. His wife Janelle was the youngest of eight in a family with deep Amish roots. When they started their own family, they realized they had almost nothing from childhood to pass down, so in early 2016 they started driving back roads looking for craftsmen still using historic methods. Millstream Home works with Amish basket weavers, quilters, toymakers, seamstresses, potters, blacksmiths, leather makers, candlemakers, and broom weavers — each piece made in someone's shop or shed or garage turned craft room. This basket is handwoven from reed and roping with a wood base, full grain leather handles, and solid brass hardware. Jake and Janelle have overseen every stitch, rivet, and seam. Made in Pennsylvania by hand, so some variation is expected.

Custom brass plate turns this into the basket your grandkids will argue over in seventy years. Until then it'll sit by the door holding scarves in winter, farmer's market tomatoes in August, then eventually whatever needs a home when the junk drawer overflows. Handwoven means no two are identical, which is either charming or mildly annoying depending on whether you were hoping for factory precision.
