Handloom Basket — Vertical Natural

The kind of basket you don’t need to hide when the toys are put away.

Lorena Canals makes this one from cotton rope, wrapping yarn carefully around the structure to create its strong vertical lines. The technique gives the basket enough rigidity to hold its shape, while the natural and ochre tones keep it warm, quiet and easy to use almost anywhere.

It’s especially good for the things children somehow accumulate by the hundred — blocks, animals, blankets, books, little treasures — but beautiful enough to stay in the room long after those things change. The design was inspired by Anni Albers’ With Verticals, and each basket is made slowly by hand rather than mass produced.
