PlanToys builds this four-story Victorian from chemical-free rubberwood using non-toxic glue and water-based dyes — the kind of craft that came out of seven university graduates deciding in 1981 that toys could actually help raise environmentally-conscious kids. Each floor opens with panels. The windows are realistic sashes that slide. The front door is magnetic. The attic counts as a floor. The whole thing stands just over two feet tall and weighs forty pounds in the box, which means assembly is a committed evening and possibly an argument about whether instructions are suggestions.

Your kid will spend the first weekend arranging furniture by vibes, the second weekend evicting everyone for a remodel, and the third weekend running a very serious hotel where checkout is 9 a.m. sharp and the continental breakfast is three crackers.
