A good cap sits on a child's head and stays put through the important parts of the day—the walk to the car, the wait at the crosswalk, the moment they spot something worth stopping for. We chose this cap because it's simple, sturdy, and made from organic cotton that softens with wear instead of falling apart. Tenaya founded Hey August after spending years looking for caps she actually wanted to dress her son in—clean shapes, good colors, no unnecessary extras—so she started making them herself. The five-panel shape keeps its structure without feeling stiff. Velcro adjustment in back means it grows with them. Available in Infant (9–24 months, 49–55 cm), Toddler (2–5 years, 52–58 cm), Youth (5–10 years, 54–60 cm), and Adult (one size fits most, 56–62 cm). It'll go on in the morning and come off at bedtime, and in between it'll do exactly what a cap is supposed to do.

By the end of the week it will have shaded three beetle inspections, one prolonged study of a dandelion, and a nap in the car on the way back from somewhere that required snacks. Forage green, as it turns out, hides dirt extremely well.
