Children will wear a cap every single day for two weeks and then forget it exists for a month, and when they find it again it will be their favorite hat all over again. We chose this cap because it holds its shape through all of that—the adjustable Velcro back means it fits now and still fits when they've grown three shoe sizes, and the soft polyester in a poppy floral print makes getting dressed feel a little less like negotiation. Tenaya founded Hey August after spending years looking for caps she actually wanted to dress her son August in—simple shapes, good colors, a little personality—and when she couldn't find them, she started making them herself. That same idea still guides the company: everyday pieces designed for the rhythm of family life, for school mornings and snack runs and the occasional bags-packed adventure. Lightweight enough that they forget they're wearing it. Adjustable enough that it'll last through the year when everything else has been outgrown. Will be worn on the car ride, forgotten on the car seat, retrieved after someone asks where it went, and back on the head before the next stop. The poppy print, it turns out, photographs well against dirt.
