Mission Mercantile exists because Chuck Bowen grew up in his family's hardware store in Claxton, Georgia and decided something vital had been lost from the world of leather goods. His father ran that store with uncompromising standards — honest dealing, care for customers and employees, generosity in all things — and Chuck built Mission Mercantile to carry those standards forward through vegetable and chrome tanned leather crafted from carefully selected full-grain steerhide. The company owns its supply chain entirely, operating two workshops: one near San Antonio and a primary shop called Blue Artisan in Leon, Mexico, deep in the old Mexico leather region. They handcraft for their own brand and over thirty others. This tote is what happens when a merchant family's DNA meets full-grain steerhide and a refusal to cut corners.
Chuck Bowen probably spends a lot of time explaining to people that yes, he really did grow up in a hardware store, and no, that's not a euphemism for anything. We like to think somewhere in Leon there's a workshop full of artisans who take leather as seriously as most people take their credit scores.
