If they are on a Banwood, they need the gear that goes with it.

A bicycle with training wheels is technically still a bicycle, but it is also a threshold—the last one before the first solo ride down the driveway. We chose this bike because it marks that passage with a design that doesn't look like a toy: navy blue alloy frame, brown faux leather saddle, cream tires, a detachable rattan basket for whatever needs carrying. Banwood is a family-owned brand founded by Juan Manuel Torralvo Castro and Frida Jonsby, who met in Germany and combined her Scandinavian design sense with his family's manufacturing history. Back pedal brake, front caliper brake with a lever sized for small hands, kickstand, bell, reflectors, mudguards, chainguards. Adjustable saddle height from 46 to 57 cm, adjustable handlebars from 66 to 72 cm. Single speed. Training wheels stay on until they don't. The basket will hold things that matter: a rock, a pinecone, a stick that is obviously a wand. Somewhere between the first wobbly lap around the driveway and the day the training wheels come off, this bike stops being a thing you own and becomes the thing you ride to the end of the block and back before dinner.
The basket will carry home the pinecone that is clearly a treasure, the stick that is obviously magic, the leaf that is apparently rare. By next week someone will have assigned it a parking spot and a rule about who gets to ring the bell.
