The body asks.
Hydrogel answers.

Endurance athletes need carbohydrates. The hard part is taking in enough while intensity, heat, and distance are already placing the gut under pressure.

Maurten built a patented hydrogel delivery system designed to help athletes tolerate high concentrations of carbohydrate during hard training and racing.

Not a flavor story. A delivery story.

Fuel, carried differently.

A Maurten hydrogel is a network of alginate and pectin that holds water while maintaining its structure. The carbohydrate sits inside that three-dimensional network.

See hydrogel, step by step
  1. 01 / Prepare

    Mix.

Dissolve one Drink Mix 320 sachet in 500ml of water. Maurten Gels are ready straight from the packet.

  2. 02 / Stomach

    Encapsulate.

Drink Mix converts to hydrogel in the stomach’s acidity. The gel format already holds that structure.

  3. 03 / Intestine

    Release.

The hydrogel dissolves in the intestine, releasing carbohydrate to be absorbed and used as fuel.

Hydrogel, in plain terms.

A structure. Not a coating.

01 / The building blocks

Alginate + pectin.

Alginate comes from seaweed. Pectin is found in fruit fiber. Together they create a three-dimensional network that can hold water while maintaining its form.

02 / Drink Mix

Liquid first.

Drink Mix is consumed as a liquid. In the low-pH environment of the stomach, the alginate and pectin are designed to form a hydrogel around the carbohydrate.

03 / Gel

Already formed.

Gel 100 arrives as a pre-formed hydrogel. That is why the texture is firm and portionable instead of a conventional runny syrup.

04 / Release

Through. Then open.

The structure is designed to carry carbohydrate through the stomach. In the intestine, it dissolves and releases the carbohydrate for absorption.

Hydrogel Technology is designed to support carbohydrate delivery during endurance exercise. Individual response and tolerance vary.

Two decisions. Four products.

Format first.
Caffeine second.

Start with how you want to carry fuel. Then decide whether 100mg of caffeine belongs in the plan you have already tested.

01 / Choose Drink Mix when

Fuel rides in the bottle.

One 500ml bottle carries an 80g carbohydrate serving. It is the cleanest choice when drinking and fueling can happen in the same action.

  • You can carry or access a bottle.
  • You want fuel and fluid in the same format.
  • You prefer one larger, sippable serving.
See both Drink Mix options

02 / Choose Gel when

Fuel rides in the pocket.

Every sachet provides a compact 25g carbohydrate serving. It is easy to carry, easy to count, and keeps hydration separate.

  • You need a portable, countable serving.
  • Fluids are available elsewhere on the route.
  • You want to separate fuel from hydration.
See both Gel options

Then choose caffeine.

Black. Or white.

Black packaging

Standard.

Drink Mix 320 and Gel 100 contain carbohydrate without added caffeine. A simple starting point for building the system.

White packaging

Caf 100.

The same format with 100mg of caffeine per serving. Account for every other caffeine source and use only after testing it in training.

Caf 100 is not “more advanced.” It is the caffeinated version. More is not automatically better.

Precision matters.

Simple to use. Specific by design.

Maurten recommends water with no more than 80mg calcium per liter. Follow one sachet per 500ml for the intended formulation.

Gel 100 is already a hydrogel. Learn the texture, timing, and amount during training—not for the first time on race day.

Before

Arrive fueled.

Drink Mix or Gel can be part of a practiced carbohydrate preload before a demanding effort.

During

Follow the plan.

Choose liquid, gel, or both according to intensity, duration, access to fluids, and individual tolerance.

After

Prepare to go again.

Drink Mix can support quick carbohydrate refueling and rehydration after hard work. Real food still does the foundation.

Start with the situation.

Maurten works as a modular system. The right starting point is the format that fits the work in front of you.

01 / Bottle-led effort

Ride. Long run. Aid station access.

Start with Drink Mix when a bottle already fits the setup and you want carbohydrate and fluid in the same action. Add Gel only if a separate, portable serving improves the plan.

02 / Pocket-led effort

Run light. Count every serving.

Start with Gel when carrying bottles is inconvenient or water is available on course. Each sachet makes 25g of carbohydrate easy to account for while hydration stays separate.

Build from the situation · Then test in training
03 / Caffeine already tested

Use Caf 100 with intent.

Pick the white Caf 100 version of the format you already prefer. Each serving adds 100mg caffeine, so count coffee, chews, and every other source in the total.

04 / First time with Maurten

Practice before the start line.

Begin with a non-caffeinated format in training. Learn the preparation, texture, timing, and personal tolerance before adding variables or depending on it in a race.

These examples explain format—not a personalized fueling schedule. Needs vary with sport, duration, intensity, climate, physiology, and tolerance. Test the complete plan in training.

Before you fuel.

What is Hydrogel Technology?

Maurten uses alginate from seaweed and pectin from fruit fiber to form a three-dimensional hydrogel structure. In Drink Mix, that structure forms in the acidity of the stomach. Maurten Gels arrive already in hydrogel form.

What do 100 and 320 mean?

The numbers refer to energy per serving. Gel 100 supplies about 100 calories from 25 grams of carbohydrate. Drink Mix 320 supplies about 320 calories from 80 grams of carbohydrate.

Gel or Drink Mix?

Drink Mix combines carbohydrate fuel with fluid in a 500ml bottle. Gel gives you a compact, precise 25-gram carbohydrate serving when you already have fluid available or prefer to separate fuel from hydration.

What does Caf 100 add?

Every Caf 100 serving contains 100mg of caffeine. Caffeine response is highly individual, so Maurten recommends learning your tolerance in training and accounting for other caffeine you consume.

Is Caf 100 automatically the better choice?

No. It is a different tool, not an upgrade. Choose Caf 100 only when caffeine is already part of a practiced plan. If you are new to the system or sensitive to caffeine, begin with the non-caffeinated format in training.

Do I need water with Gel 100?

Water is not required to wash down Maurten Gel because it is already a hydrogel rather than a runny syrup. Hydration still matters, so plan fluids separately for the conditions and effort.

Can I change the Drink Mix water ratio?

Maurten developed Drink Mix for one sachet in 500ml of water. Changing that ratio changes the concentration and the intended hydrogel strength, so follow the preparation method on the package and test everything in training.

Can I combine Drink Mix and Gel?

Yes. The formats are designed as a modular system. You can combine bottle-based and portable fuel, but total carbohydrate, fluid, and caffeine should fit a plan you have already practiced.

When can I use each format?

Drink Mix can be used before, during, or after hard training and racing. Gel is a compact option before or during an effort. Sports fuel extends a normal food-based diet; it does not replace it.

Why is there almost no flavor?

The minimal taste follows the minimal formulation. These four products have no added colors, flavors, or preservatives. The current package remains the source of truth for ingredients and nutrition information.

How do I know how much I need?

There is no universal schedule. Sport, duration, intensity, climate, body composition, sweat rate, tolerance, and access to fluids all change the plan. Use the 25g and 80g serving sizes to build and test a personal strategy in training.
