LUOTO II Climbing Arch — Birch

There are toys a child plays with, and then there are pieces childhood seems to happen around.

LUOTO II is FitWood at its best: a beautifully resolved piece of Finnish design that begins as a climbing arch and somehow keeps becoming more. Children climb over it, crawl beneath it, turn it upside down to rock, throw a blanket across it for a fort, make it a goal, a shop, a stage, a table, or something no adult would have thought of. It builds balance, strength, coordination, and confidence — mostly because children simply want to keep using it.

And this is where FitWood really separates itself. LUOTO isn’t simply another version of a familiar wooden climber. It is Laura Meriluoto’s patented original design, refined over years of real use into the LUOTO II. The newer version has narrower spacing between the rungs for smaller climbers and an expanding family of beautifully considered accessories that allow the piece to keep changing as a child grows.

Turn it over and add the KAURA II cushion for a wonderfully generous rocker. Add the TUOHI slide ramp and it becomes an entirely different climbing challenge. Pair it with the LUOTO stool and, remarkably, the same piece can become a child-sized workspace. Even after the climbing years, its quiet birch form can live on as furniture rather than becoming one more large thing childhood has outgrown.

That longevity is a big part of why we chose it. LUOTO II is imaginative play, serious movement, and genuinely beautiful design all in one — substantial enough to be used hard, restrained enough to live in the middle of your home, and thoughtfully made for many different chapters of childhood.

One beautiful FitWood piece is good. This is what makes it feel like an entire playground.

TUOHI II attaches to the LUOTO II climbing arch or any of FitWood’s wall bars and instantly creates a completely different kind of movement. One side is a beautifully smooth slide; flip it over and the raised rungs become a climbing ramp. Move it to a different bar and the angle changes too — from a gentle first climb to something considerably more adventurous.

It’s exactly the kind of accessory that makes the FitWood system so compelling. Rather than buying another large piece of play equipment, you give the piece already in your home an entirely new challenge. Children climb up, slide down, crawl across, experiment with balance and gradually discover what their bodies can do.

The updated TUOHI II adds secure fastening straps to help keep the ramp firmly in position during play, while the substantial birch plywood construction carries the same quiet, furniture-like quality as the rest of the collection.

If LUOTO II or HONKA is the foundation, TUOHI II is the accessory we’d have a hard time leaving out.

This is where the LUOTO II changes character completely.

Strap the KAURA II into the inverted climbing arch and what was moments ago a place to climb becomes a deep, gentle rocker — soft enough for reading, resting, daydreaming, or the kind of quiet swinging that somehow resets the whole afternoon.

That transformation is one of the reasons we admire FitWood so much. Instead of making more things, they design a few exceptionally considered ones to do more. KAURA II was refined specifically for the LUOTO II, with new center attachment straps that hold the cushion securely in place while rocking and a generously plush fill that softens the entire arch.

Even the textile feels considered: the warm Sand fabric is made entirely from recycled cotton and polyester fibers, carries OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certification, and is washable when childhood inevitably leaves its mark. Designed by Laura Meriluoto and made in Finland, it turns an already remarkable climbing piece into somewhere children will genuinely want to stay awhile.

A small addition that gives the LUOTO II an entirely new kind of steadiness.

When the climbing arch is turned over into its rocker position, these specially designed birch wedges nest against the sides to keep it securely in place. That means younger children can climb in, explore, sit, and play without the arch immediately beginning to rock — then, when movement is wanted again, simply remove the wedges.

It’s another beautifully considered detail in the FitWood system. Rather than limiting the LUOTO II to one age or one kind of play, FitWood keeps finding thoughtful ways for the same exceptional piece to adapt. Climbing structure, rocker, quiet little nest — and now a stable space for the smallest adventurers, too.

Felt Protection Pads — Birch

A small finishing detail for the FitWood pieces that are meant to live beautifully in your home.

These adhesive felt pads are designed specifically for the LUOTO climbing arches and LAAKSO rocking lounger, creating a soft barrier wherever the wood meets the floor. They help protect hardwood and other finished surfaces from marks and wear while also protecting the FitWood piece itself — particularly useful for something like LUOTO II, which is meant to move between climbing arch, rocker, fort, and quiet resting place over and over again.

The pads can be trimmed to fit the curved profiles of the arch and can also be used beneath the LUOTO II Wedges. We think of them as the sensible little addition to the hero pieces: almost invisible once installed, but worthwhile when a beautiful piece of play equipment is going to become part of everyday life in the middle of your home.

What comes with the arch?

LUOTO II is the climbing arch. The TUOHI II ramp, KAURA II cushion, wedges and felt pads are sold separately. Your selection lists exactly what you’re adding to the cart.

Do I need every accessory?

No. Begin with the arch alone, or choose the pieces that suit your child’s play. The starting combinations are suggestions, and you can change them before adding to your cart.

Which pieces work together?

Everything in this builder is compatible with LUOTO II. KAURA II is the fitted rocker cushion. The wedges are specifically for holding LUOTO II steady when inverted. TUOHI II also fits FitWood wall bars, which are not included here.

How much room do we need?

The arch measures 39.4″ W × 23.6″ D × 21.3″ H. The ramp is 47.2″ long. Allow additional clear space around the equipment and follow the setup instructions for each configuration.

What ages is it for?

Rarely lists the LUOTO II arch, ramp, cushion and wedges for ages 2+. The arch and ramp each have a listed weight capacity of approximately 132 lbs. Follow the supplied assembly and use instructions, and supervise children during play.

Can I buy an accessory on its own?

Yes. Open “Take a closer look” on an accessory and choose “Add this item to cart.” The playground builder always includes one arch.

How do I care for the cushion?

KAURA II is machine washable on a delicate cycle. Follow its care label for washing and drying instructions.
