The hallway is a highway.
Solid beech, wooden joinery and parts that really work, made by hand in Rhede, Germany, since 1982. Built to outlast the childhood it’s bought for.
- Trucks from $115
- No nails, screws or staples
- Repair and spare-parts service
Stop 1 · The building site
Scoop it. Tip it. Do it again.
Two blocks for the house at the end of the hallway, one very important driver, and a deadline of dinner. The loader’s arm and bucket move on wooden joints, with no metal hardware anywhere in it.

The full dump set
Wheels Dumper and Dumper Trailer, hitched for twice the load. $254
Stop 2 · The fire station
Teddy’s stuck on the sofa.
Swing the ladder round, raise it, slide out the next section and send someone up. Six firefighters ride along, and the axles under them are wood.

Stop 3 · The long way home
Around the cushion, past your feet, home by bath time.
Fold the top deck down into a ramp, roll the cars off and steer with the knob on the cab. Some days the drive is the whole game.

Every Car Transporter comes with a Speedy car and two figures, so the first load is already on board.
Stop 4 · First laps
Small hands start here.
Not quite three? The Unimog is rated from 24 months and steers like the big trucks. The hand-sized Speedy Car and Van are for ages three and up.

Waiting on a Speedy? One rides along with every Car Transporter.

Why they cost what they cost
Built to outlast the childhood it’s bought for.
A Fagus truck costs more than most toy trucks because nearly everything about it is done the slow way: solid wood, wooden joints, parts that really move, and people paid fairly to make it. Here’s where the money goes.
- 1A ladder with real reach
Three sections that rotate, raise and slide out to about 26 inches.
- 2Moving parts worked out in wood
The joints, connections and moving parts are wood, dowels and glue, not metal fasteners.
- 3Six firefighters on board
Solid beech figures with colored heads, sized to ride every truck in the fleet.
- 4Solid beech, doweled and glued
No nails, no screws, no staples. Beech from sustainable German forestry.
- 5Wooden axles
Even the axles are wood, so the whole truck is built the same careful way.
- 6It really steers
The front wheels turn, so the ladder can be lined up for the rescue.
Fagus next to the usual toy truck
| What you’re comparing | Fagus | The usual toy truck |
|---|---|---|
| What it’s made of | Solid beech from sustainable German forestry. Fagus is Latin for beech. | Molded plastic, or softwood and composite board. |
| How it holds together | Interlocked, doweled and glued. No nails, screws or staples. | Screws, staples or snap-fit plastic. |
| What moves | Steering, tipping beds, rotating ladders and folding ramps that really work. | Often fixed parts, or one simple trick. |
| Who makes it | About 135 people with disabilities in Rhede, Germany, in vocational training and fair-wage work. | Rarely disclosed. |
| Safety | Independently tested by Institut Fresenius (SGS), GS-marked since 2024, made to meet US ASTM requirements. | Varies by maker. |
| When a part breaks | Fagus runs a repair and spare-parts service. | Usually the end of the toy. |
| Growing the set | Same scale and figures across the fleet, and add-ons like the Dumper Trailer hitch on. | Sets seldom work together. |
